Are Mayhem Festival 2006
First of all, thanks to John Roche , Tibor Berki , Tommy Johannson ,
Are Bikepark Crew and all other helpers in the background.
Good Job !

There we had just been at the 4Cross European Mastershop in the Saxonian Stollberg, as to that we could take off to Middle Sweden after the elimination of the U16 team at the world premiere of Team 4Cross. Voluntary scheduling was to get to Are on time, Tuesday 6 o’clock. Alright, into the car in Stollberg and after 31 hours, 2400 road km, countless sea miles and a wide variety of problem in Are / Sweden on Tuesday, 2 o’clock arrival at the lift station. Other mandatory arrangements were to drink Becks still on the steering wheel, pissing around the edge and the nocturnal footing to the 4Cross track on top of the mountain. Bright nights made it possible. After that we slept in the transporter on the parking lot. We would like to hereby annouce our jealousy to the Swedish and Norwegian campers that were parked right next to us. Close to the free fall into dreamland, there was the rememberance to the in Jönköping bought SPD click-sneakers that would have been cheaper in Germany. Oh well, dream well Age. Just go to sleep now!
Woken up in the morning, it became aware to us that we were not just here for Ole’s racing mission but also to go on vacation. Why did we become aware of this? Sure, it was raining and cold. Just to pre-explain: the following 2 weeks we were spoilt with sun and warm weather for biking.

Alright, here just a few explanations to the Are Mayhem Festival:

Actually declared to be Scandinavia’s biggest Freeride Event, it offers much more. The event includes also: 4Cross , Downhill , Street , Slopestyle , Partysessions , Bike-Cinema and diverse Bikeclinics with professionals from overseas and Europe. All this takes place at a location wich is the Alpine metropole during winter months in this region. There will be the Alpine World Championships in Are in winter 2007. Therefore no explanations are needed regarding their infrastructure. Every year bikers benefit from this advantage. The Bikepark Are and their skilled Crew with a yearlong preparation support all this. There were some new and revised trails that were offered again this year. Unbeatable is the relaxed and chilled-out atmosphere on the ground. Best Man and simultaneously organisor is John Roche, who probably is a name to everybody in Sweden anyways. Very rarely have I met somebody who was that friendly and excited about meeting us, just to welcome us.

Ole and I have had one week of fun and action on the Areskutan and would have loved to stay longer. Ole became 4th in the 4Cross and got 11th place at the Slopestylecontest. For free both of us got some units in language, for Ole in English and for me a bit refreshment in Swedish Basics. As a German one sometimes feels just very anti-international. On the other hand one comes around with English Basics in Sweden and during races you are always helped in a friendly manner.chüton – is the sound when number 17 is called out to start.

Finances
Prices for lift tickets have been arranged internationally, in other words 20EUR for a daily pass. Overnight stays starting at 180EUR per week with differently equipped appartments / Stugas. Daily needs are about 20% more expensive as in Germany. Prices for parties and liquids – holla – costly!

Just on the side:
I hereby admit and annouce: jag är 40 a°r gammal.
Who has kept a sight and feeling for nature in modern times, will be dead right in Are and ist surroundings.

Da war mal grad eben noch bei der 4Cross Europameisterschaft im
sächsischem Stollberg , um sofort nach dem Ausscheiden des U16
Teams bei der Weltpremiere im Team 4Cross , mal eben schnell
nach Mittelschweden zu fahren . Freiwillige Terminierung war das
Ankommen in Are am Dienstag 6.00 Uhr . Also in Stollberg ins Auto
und nach 31 Stunden , 2400 Strassenkilometern , etlichen Seemeilen
und diversen gelösten Schwierigkeiten in Are / Schweden am Dienstag
02.00 Uhr an der Liftstation angekommen . Weitere sofortige Maßnahmen
waren Becks noch am Lenkrad trinken , Pinkeln um die Ecke und der
nächtliche Fußmarsch auf die 4Cross Piste auf dem Berg . Helle Nächte
machten es möglich . Danach war Schlafen im Transporter auf dem
Parkplatz angesagt . Unser Neid auf die ebenfalls dort stehenden
schwedischen und norwegischen Wohnmobile sei hiermit mitgeteilt .
Kurz vor dem freien Fall ins Dreamland , die Erinnerung das die in
Jönköping gekauften SPD Klickschuhe in Deutschland preiswerter
gewesen wären . Schlaf gut Age , schlaf endlich ein .

Frühmorgens aufgewacht , wurde uns so richtig bewußt , das wir nicht
nur wegen Ole's Renneinsatz , sondern auch zum Urlaub machen hier
waren . Warum wurde es uns bewußt ? Klar doch - es regnete und es war
kalt . Aber um es vorweg zu nehmen . Die darauf folgenden 2 Wochen
wurde wir mit Sonne und eigentlich fürs Biken zu warm verwöhnt .

So hier jetzt mal nen paar Erklärungen zum Are Mayhem Festival
Eigentlich deklariert als Skandinaviens größtes Freeride Event , bietet es
doch noch einiges mehr . Im Event inbegriffen ist 4Cross , Downhill ,
Street , Slopestyle , Partysessions , Bikekino und diverse Bikeclinics
mit Profis aus Übersee und Europa . Das ganze findet in einem Ort statt
der im Winter die Alpine Metropole in der Region ist . Im Winter 2007
finden in Are die alpinen Weltmeisterschaften statt und somit bedarf
es keiner sonderlichen Hinweise auf die Infrastruktur . Dieser Vorzug
kommt alljährlich den Bikern zugute . Unterstützt wird das ganze in
alljährlicher Vorbereitung durch den Bikepark Are und dessen sehr
fähiger Crew . Es wurden auch dieses Jahr wieder einige neue und
überarbeitete Trails geboten . Unschlagbar ist die entspannte lockere
Atmosphäre vor Ort . Topman und gleichzeitig Organisator des
Mayhem ist John Roche , der in Schweden wohl jedem geläufig ist .
Selten jemanden kennegelernt der so freundlich und begeisternd
auf mich zukommen ist , nur um mich zu begrüßen .

Ole und ich haben eine Woche lang viel Spaß und Action am
Areskutan gehabt und wären gerne länger geblieben .
Ole ist im 4Cross guter 4.er geworden und belegt beim
Slopestylecontst den 11.Platz . Umsonst für uns beide gab es
einige Einheiten Sprachkurs , für Ole in Englisch und für mich
die Aufrischung schwedischer Grundkenntnisse . Man fühlt sich
als Deutscher manchmal echt un-international . Aber man kommt
in Schweden mit englischen Grundkenntnissen zurecht und im
Rennablauf wird freundlich geholfen , - chüton - klingt es , wenn
die Nummer 17 zum Start gerufen wird .

Finanzielles
Die Preise für die Liftkarten wurden internation angepasst , sprich
die Tageskarte so um 20 Euro . Übernachtungen ab 180 Euro die
Woche in unterschiedlich ausgestatteten Apartments oder Stugas .
Täglicher Bedarf ca. 20% teurer als in Deutschland .
Preise für Partys und dem dortigen Flüssigzündstoff - holla ! Teuer !

Ich oute mich mal und geb bekannt - jag är 40 a°r gammal
Wer sich in der Neuzeit einen Blick und ein Gefühl für Natur bewahrt hat ,
der ist in Are und Umgebung ebenfalls goldrichtig .
